Voter guide
Practical steps for voting in India. Bharatvote.in is independent; for anything official, use the Election Commission of India (ECI) services below and check eci.gov.in for the latest information.
1. Check you are on the electoral roll
Search your name on the ECI voters’ portal: voters.eci.gov.in. You can also use the ECI Voter Helpline app or call the voter helpline 1950.
2. Register or correct your details
New voters (18 or older on the qualifying date), people who moved and anyone fixing an error can apply online on the voters’ portal.
3. Find your polling station
Your polling station is shown with your entry on the electoral roll and on the voter information slip.
4. Know your candidates
Candidate affidavits (assets, cases, education) are published by ECI; the ECI ‘Know Your Candidate’ app shows them. On Bharatvote.in, open your constituency page to see past results.
5. On polling day
Carry your EPIC (voter ID) or another photo ID that ECI allows for that election. Check the vote on the VVPAT slip window after pressing the EVM button.
6. Report a violation
Use ECI’s cVIGIL app to report model code of conduct violations with a photo or video.
Voters with disabilities and senior citizens
ECI provides facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs and assistance; see the ECI Saksham app and your district election office.
Operator: check these service names and links before each election season; they are set by ECI and can change.
